What Is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is two or more seekers entering a sacred space to dream, explore, and discern a path toward personal wholeness and deeper intimacy with the divine.
John R. Mabry.
Spiritual direction is a shared pilgrimage, where the spiritual director walks alongside the directee as a fellow pilgrim. Rather than seeking to fix or solve, the director offers companionship and guidance, honouring the directee's story as a sacred part of their journey. Together, they navigate the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, holding onto hope amidst the twists and turns of the spiritual path. The director creates a safe, non-judgmental space where the directee can explore their relationship with themselves, others, and the divine. Through deep listening and reflection, they help the directee discern the whispers of their heart and recognize the presence of God in everyday moments.
It's a sacred space where stories are honoured, not fixed, and where the individual's humanity is embraced as part of their connection to a loving God. Through quiet questions, reflection, and discernment, it unveils the divine within everyday moments. It is holy hospitality, welcoming the entirety of one's being – joys, hopes, fears, dreams, decisions, doubts
Spiritual Direction is usually ongoing, over several sessions, with regular reviews
